Sweet Little Girl Feet

I'm so excited that this week's I Heart Faces challenge is feet!!! This past August I became an aunt to twin girls! That in it's self was exciting (after having 5 boys myself!), but I also got to be their newborn photographer! This was one of my absolute favorites!!!

Meet Luxe and Harley, or rather their piggies.... ;)

Be sure and stop by I Heart Faces for some fun entries this week!

Walking through the Valley

The events of the past two weeks have caused me to be grateful for the everyday blessings. All those little things and even the big ones that I so often take for granted. Even a normal routine of everyday life can be a huge blessing!

Two weeks ago, I lost both a great uncle and great aunt. I was closest to my uncle, but neither loss was particularly hard for me. I felt more sorrow for my maternal grandparents as they'd each just lost a sibling only days apart. Both had lived to see their children and grandchildren grow and both had died from different forms of cancer. The only plus was it brought my parents and youngest brother to our house once again. Making a new record of four times in less than a year! :D Sorry, can't help but be happy about that detail! It also gave me an opportunity to see one of my very dear friend's one week old baby about two hours away when I took my brother to catch his flight early Sunday morning.

That was a week ago this past Sunday. Yesterday we said our final goodbye to two week old Autumn Sage.

You see back in June or so they found out that their fourth little girl would be born with a severe case of Spina Bifida. Many, many, many people have been praying for healing for this precious unborn baby girl. But after a long difficult pregnancy on November 3 Autumn was delivered into the hands of a medical team that was ready to fight for her. Within a matter of hours she'd had surgery to repair her spine and close the hole in her back. She made it through four or so hours of surgery and was doing good. Not many days later she underwent surgery to have a shunt put in to drain the extra fluid around her brain. She became dependant on the ventilator and later suffered a few seizures. The reports that came back weren't good and the difficult decision was made to take her off life support. She passed away about 20 minutes later at only 2 weeks old.

Such a short life, but one that has touched so many! I know that I have truly touched an angel! She was beautiful in every way and now she is perfect and free of all pain and disabilities! I don't know that I have ever hurt more over a loss, not even my own miscarriage. Something about praying and praying over a child and hoping and dreaming and the answer still being "no". It's was a part of His perfect plan and we can share in that hope of what's to come! I can't imagine how people face a loss without a faith in the one true and living God!

Autumn has truly touched my life. I was asked to take pictures both the Sunday we went to visit and then again on the day that they took her off the ventilator. It was a privilege and an honor, but at the same time so heart wrenching. I'm glad I was able to preserve memories that will last a lifetime, but it still feels like so little.

So this is my little tribute to Autumn Sage born Nov. 3 and passed away Nov. 17. You were loved by so many and will be missed for years to come!

If you'd like to read more about Autumn's story and give Kim, her mother, some love and words of comfort or encouragement, please stop by her blog at Journey.... blessings in disguise....

Autumn is gone from this earth, but she is more free now than she ever would've been here, just like the balloons released in her honor!
Let's all take time to enjoy the precious moments we have today, because life truly is a vapor!

Wedding #6

A week ago yesterday found me second shooting a wedding with a good friend in Michigan. This makes our third wedding together and we've got one more before the year comes to an end.

I apologize for the silence around here the past few months. In August my brother and his wife had their twins, two adorable little girls, Harley June and Luxe Elisabeth.

My mom came up from Texas for a month and lived with us! It was a great time and we all loved it!!! She came when my photography business was booming and we started back at school. I was so grateful that she was here and it worked out for her to help me, I couldn't have done it without her! If you'd like to see what all my photography business has been up to, you can check it out here on my fb business page. http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Leticias-Photography/133935026667569?sk=photos I never had the time to blog my sessions like I usually do, but I'm hoping that I can start it up again soon as I've got two family shoots coming up this week if the weather cooperates. :)

Itty Bitty & More

This week a tiny 6 day old came to my house. He weighed only 5lbs. 8ozs. at birth so he was such a little peanut! I seriously could just sit and hold these babies for the hours that their at my house....forget taking pics! Ha! Not sure there is much more precious than a fresh new baby!!!

Levi Aaron:

This last one makes me smile....it's begging for a caption! :)

The week before, my cousin Holly came and brought her 11 day old to use my "studio" (total make shaft job! ha!) and I played the assistant. I did however get to snap a few pictures and this one was my favorite. Meet 9lb. 4oz. Lincoln Charlie, so sweet!

The day before Lincoln's birth day was my own son's 11th birthday! Ethan is a true first born, in every way! I'm not sure how I'd do without him, he is just so responsible and helpful. He can however pester and irritate! :D A true boy who loves the outdoors, shooting his gun (the real deal), playing in the woods, reading Hank the Cowdog, and riding the unicycle is his newest accomplishment! He's all about cowboys. So you have it, a Happy Belated birthday post to a wonderful boy who I'm glad to call my son!!!

This one was his favorite processing...

Speaking of boys, here is what you quite possibly could find in the pocket of an almost 3 yr. old while out mushroom hunting. Your usual acorn and acorn top and snails.....live snails.....very much alive.....more were in the bottom! Silly boys!

They discovered some baby rabbits in my flowerbed and that provided entertainment for several days. So tiny and fluffy.

Here are my mother's day flowers from my three oldest. They made them in art class and are perfect, they'll last forever....if they don't get smashed first! :)

And last of all, for anyone who is in to photography and has questioned the importance of a reflector. Here's a quick example of the difference a piece of white paper can make. Yep, you heard it right. My youngest fell asleep on the floor facing away from the window. I wanted to get his picture, but the lighting was horrible. If I'd used flash I was way too close and it would've been disaster!!! Getting my photography reflector out was a little unreasonable for just a snapshot so I grabbed the closest thing that was white, a piece of paper out of our printer. Here are the results. ***Both pictures are completely unedited and yes, not tack sharp. I was lying on the floor, wedged between our desk and him and had to operate my camera with one hand (not easy when you use back button focusing to hold that AND push the shutter button AND hold the camera steady!) while holding the flimsy paper in my other hand. You get the mental picture! Ha! Anyway, my point is proven, good picture or not! ;)

Without paper:

With paper:

Excuse the dirty face, he'd been outside with daddy. :)

That's it! Hope you didn't mind the hodge podge post! Have a great end of the week! This weekend I'm off to help second shoot a wedding and then the following Friday I have my own wedding to shoot. Fun stuff!

Rachel - 12 & 20 days

Apologies to those who have already seen these, but I have readers here who haven't. This was my last newborn session for 2010 and produced some of my favs to date! I can hardly wait till my next one!!!

Miss Rachel's mother and I grew up together, just a 1/2 mi down the road from each other. We were the best of friends and have remained so through a move and back again. Little Rachel is #4 in her family, the third girl and was quite picky to work with. She first came at 12 days and just wouldn't cooperate in the two plus hours we worked with her. She came back at 20 days and we had much better results, which is all but one of these pictures.
